Plastering (6
week practical assessment)
ICA’s are aimed at people
who are not at this moment working within the construction
industry,or people wishing to change trades either
within the construction industry or not.An I.C.A is
a measure of an individual’s capability to carry
out a range of work to the performance criteria, that
has been agreed by the industry and standards setting
body,C.I.T.B (construction skills).
The range of work
is identified in the national occupational standards
and is made up of a number of units of competence, which
can be accumulated over any period of time, and in any
sequence.
To achieve an I.C.A you must meet the criteria, pass
an independent health and safety test (arranged during
your course) and a knowledge test which is set and
marked by City and Guilds.
The main difference between
the construction award and the N.V.Q, is that an I.C.A
is carried out within a training establishment, with
all training and assessment of units of competence completed
there, (qualified before entering industry).
The N.V.Q
is a workbased (vocational) award. All I.C.A units
are directly related to their equivalent N.V.Q unit
and will tell you what extra assessment is needed to
gain the relevant N.V.Q unit, once working in the construction
industry
