Advanced Construction Award (A.C.A.)

The Advanced Construction Award (ACA) is designed to prepare people for work in a particular construction occupation. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the assessment is based on candidates showing what they can do.

The ACA is a single award that is broken into seperate routes such as the Bricklaying route, Site Carpentry route, Painting and Decorating route, Plastering route. On issue, the ACA achievement certificate will be endorsed with the route studied.

Each ACA route comprises;
• core units
• occupation-specific units
• a phase test

Each unit within a particular route is mandatory and covers one group of skills. To gain the award, candidates have to be successful in all units and the phase test but each unit they achieve will be recorded. They must also pass an independent health and safety test and seperate knowledge test.

Another important feature of the ACA is that it provides a progression route towards achieving a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 3. Units withinan ACA route relate to the units within the relevant construction NVQ.

Industrial Standards
